Social Media Defence

There has been a huge increase in young girls requesting plastic surgery to look more like their profile pics

Social Media Defence – Plastic Surgery Requests

Filters that widen the eyes, raise the cheekbones and plump up those lips creating false beauty standards. Those pics receive more and more likes confirming to the user what everybody desires. Then the algorithms drive personal pictures to the feed more often creating a false ratio of likes for selfies etc. Thus skewing the perspective of the user to what is important.

When stocks and shares are based on users screen time, the aim is obvious for these platforms and they know you better than you do. If you think that’s unlikely, then you are not well informed or so out of touch with technology you possibly watch Mrs Brown and think its funny. Spotify recommends songs you love all the time, youtube recommends videos you can’t tear yourself away from. They know you, they know what you like, they feed you more and more of it and you are slowly becoming the lungs of the machine world. Matrix was not to far off.

Social Media Defence – Eyes on screens

NETFLIX QUOTE  “Our only competitor is sleep”

The aim is to keep people scrolling and keep share prices growing. This means the more time youngsters spend on Instagram etc the more of the free time and headspace is taken up with a false reality. This then leaks over into face to face interactions as the common thing to talk about is the thing we all do the most of, so we talk about Instagram posts and likes and pictures. We even start to think in terms of posting a status. Ever been doing something fun and started to think about putting it up on FB etc?

Life gets shallower and less meaningful while beauty standards and the perfect life are portrayed as normal. As girls express violence differently than boys all this hyper exaggerates various traits that have negative effects and this is one of the reasons suicides in girls are rising fast.

Boys still kill themselves at a higher rate than girls but the numbers are growing, with a 70% increase for girls recently and a 30% increase for boys.

Social Media Defence – Beyond the physical

Now teaching kids and adults to stand up to bullies with a firm clear warning and then if needs be a punch in the face is in our opinion much needed. In fact, when parents come in and tell us, like someone did on Saturday “Thank you, my boy punched the bully back after being bullied for o long he stood up for himself” Well those days are what makes it all worth while.

But things are changing at thats not enough any more, online presence and screen time is having terrible effects.

Now either we change human nature, become more compassionate and kind to each other. OK so lets forget that for a while, maybe in the future but were a way off that yet

OR

We take control of our usage and screen time, the tech companies are actually addressing some of these issues ive laid out above but its a  slow movement, remember stocks and shares £££££££ will always come first.

Social Media Defence – Essential Listening

Heres a great interview with a guy who’s works at the highest levels of the big tech companies, he’s doing good work.

Have a listen here, limit your screen time and get a life

Ways to train – Shadow Training Martial Arts

Shadow Training Martial Arts

Shadow Training Martial Arts – Introduction

Last week we discussed flow drills, this week we’ll look at shadow training. An important part of martial arts training, well not just martial arts. Many other sports and high achievers use this method of training. Some were doing so several hundred years ago.

If you’re interested in the history of martial arts and combat then check out this. Written by a Miyamoto Musashi who retreated to a cave in 1643 and wrote The Book of Five Rings, a manifesto on swordsmanship, strategy, and winning for his students and generations of samurai to come, he created one of the most perceptive and incisive texts on strategic thinking ever to come from Asia.

Its a wonderful timeless book and he incorporates shadow training into his regime. Now he won 400 or so sword fights so im trusting it as a valuable tool on that alone. But seriously, science has this backed up and well proven these days.

Shadow Training Martial Arts – Why we do

Shadow training develops the mind, you can shadow train calm, slow and methodical like a Tai Chi master. Or you can go full blown Tyson, who was incredibly intense with his shadow fighting.

Video linked below, i’ve linked a video of myself too so you can see my style of shadow training for self defence.

Your mind does not know the difference between shadow training and the real thing. You are building the neural pathways while doing so. Do this enough and do this well. Then come the fight or sparring session your brain thinks you have been there many times before.

Shadow Training Martial Arts – It’s not easy

Now if you are not such a visual person its not so easy but still worth while. Olympic athletes and professional sports people from bob sleigh to formula 1 use this method in their training.

It’s a damn good work out too, no excuses either. No training partner? No problem, put a pad on one hand and a glove on the other and go mental for 2 minute rounds. You will be on your knees gasping for air if you give it all.

It’s A Real Thing

Social Media Self Defence – Some tips to help

Social Media Self Defence

Social Media Self Defence – Twitter & Facebook are NOT REAL Life

We are in a strange time and place where humans are struggling to adapt to the current technological landscape.

BAD NEWS is, it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

GOOD NEWS is, you can train to keep the wolves and keyboard warriors at bay.

So have you ever commented on a post and before you know it, your being attacked and abused?

The simplest comment can be met with insults and anger. If you haven’t then can you please send me your secret.

Social Media Self Defence – The signs

The first signs are usually people respond with something personal. This is your warning sign, it’s all about the ideas. Let’s say we’re discussing a political idea or a training technique, it doesn’t really matter.

The thing we’re discussing is an idea, we are not our idea’s, ideas can change. As soon as someone criticises you and not your idea the conversation is going well off track.

Simply respond with “Can we leave me out of this, i’d like to stick with the subject and idea”

I have been in debates where people have gone completely insane and insulting. I keep repeating this until they get it and we continue or i leave the conversation.

Social Media Self Defence – Go ahead punk, change my mind

I always like to squeeze in the invitation, go ahead punk, change my mind. I mean it, if your idea is better than my own then I’m shifting my paradigm over, that’s what I live for. I’m not here to prove I’m right, so prove my idea wrong or weak.

Imagine a world where politicians acted like that. Instead of turning up to argue and prove a point. Turn up to get to the best outcome, so in the end, we all win. We can dream eh!

Social Media Self Defence – Insane rabbit head

It’s always helpful to remember that. If a man in a rabbit head mask shouted across the street. “you have absolutely no idea how to xxxxxxxxx” You wouldn’t automatically think “oh let’s sit down and discuss this, i need to explain my life to you”

No, you’d think, fruitcake stay out of my life in off for a coffee. Social media is the same, random strangers with random profile pics. Saying random things often for no reason than to antagonise others.

There possibly also 12 years old and have nothing better to do than bait people much much wiser.

Social Media Self Defence – Stay Free

Don’t get caught up in it. It’s not real and while in the moment it can feel like a rollercoaster of emotions. Its simply a keyboard and a screen, turn it off.

No one, and I mean no one will care or remember a few hours later.

He who controls emotions controls the fight
